2020 comes to an end and people working in hospitality, in the Event industry, in Entertainment and in hospitals will now celebrate - what?

Due to the circumstances my original Xmas message that I post every year just doesn’t fit this year so I had to adjust.

Positive is hard to find

The positive side is that we all can stay home with the family. Some of us the first time in years. We have to enjoy this.

Yes - the negative side is that we stayed home the whole year and had hardly any income. Our Governments don’t give a dam about this and maybe we should also don’t give a dam. We can’t change it anyway! But maybe reconsider serving politicians in the future?

For hospitality, Events and Entertainment 2020 was a catastrophe so what we can and will celebrate is the end of this year - as fast as possible. The New year will come and we can re-build what politicians have destroyed. It will be a slow process and after almost a year of un employment, no or very little income we can best get over Xmas also fast.

Financial help?

The financial help promised in Germany for hospitality for November wasn't paid in November, wasn’t paid in December and is now promised for January, February 2021. A nice additional Xmas gift for an industry that has been devastated by incompetent politicians. The biggest gift is for MacDonalds, Starbucks and other chains that don’t pay taxes in Germany but will get 70% of last years revenue as a Gift! From Tax payers money!

Medical staff in hospitals are still getting paid as lousy as before and there is no intention to change that. Clapping hands was a wonderful idea from our politicians and increasing the parliament employees and politicians payment was a sufficient enough response. Fireworks are banned so they will have less burns this year - but should this be the only gift government is providing for care takers and medical staff? They don’t work harder in Corona times! How? They always worked bloody hard and to the absolute limit! But it seems so - this will be the only gift government can think of!

In a recent article hope was at least raise with pointing out that people want to and will travel again.

“The whole world is just waiting for one thing: to go back on vacation and live anew. Many already know their next destination and have dreamed of making it there on a daily basis. The first phase will, therefore, be a direct return of the pendulum, with an enormous demand that must be met as soon as the global health situation allows.”

We know we will be needed again. It doesn’t make us feel much better when money is short for Xmas, we are un employed or the future is totally uncertain.

But we - hospitality workers and hospital workers are the toughest breed and will survive. We will not give up. let's stick together - use any channel of communication and help each other.

In tough times with the confidence that it will get better, the wish to see you all in perfect health next year - I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
